All invited to First Friday Forum featuring Bishop Gomez
Catholic networking, faith-building event at JPII campus Dec. 7
Is it possible to transform the ordinary challenges of family life and work into opportunities to grow closer to God? According to Bishop José Gomez, auxiliary bishop of Denver, "Anybody can strike for holiness by simply doing his or her ordinary work."
All are invited to attend the First Friday Forum, beginning with 7 a.m. Mass on Dec. 7 at the John Paul II Center campus, 1300 S. Steele St. in Denver.
At a continental breakfast following the Mass, Bishop Gomez will give a thought-provoking talk and offer tools to help people see how the ordinary challenges of family life and work are opportunities for sanctification and add a new dimension of meaning and purpose to existence.
Ron Montoya, president of PlastiCom Industries, will introduce Bishop Gomez and serve as master of ceremonies during the breakfast session.
Montoya is a leading figure in business in Colorado and a generous supporter of many important organizations, including Mount St. Vincent Home.
The First Friday Forum is designed to help people achieve a deeper level of spirituality in their daily lives. The First Friday Forum offers Catholics the opportunity to meet others interested in living their faith. Networking will be encouraged and educational materials provided.
In 1673, Jesus Christ appeared to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque and revealed to her that he had chosen her to foster devotion to the Sacred Heart. Throughout the rest of her life, St. Margaret Mary shared Christ's desire that the faithful would make reparation for their sins and the sins of the world by honoring his Sacred Heart on the First Friday of the month.
To do so, Catholics are encouraged to do one or more of the following: Attend Mass, spend time in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, make an act of consecration to the Sacred Heart, or receive the Sacrament of Confession.
Devotion to the Sacred Heart is a source of spiritual strength for Catholics throughout the world.
The First Friday Forum is sponsored by Legatus of Colorado, the Knights of
Columbus, the Catholic Foundation and the Communications Secretariat of the Archdiocese of Denver.
