Regis High launches capital campaign for expansion
Parish meetings to solicit support reaching $20 million goal
Regis Jesuit High School announced it has begun the public phase of its $20 million capital campaign to expand Regis' current campus and has set dates at four different parishes to discuss the timeline and project status and solicit support for the campaign.
The "Tradition Touching Tomorrow" campaign will include the construction of a new building for boys and the expansion of current facilities for a new all-girls division. The divisions will operate as two separate and distinct entities with each having its own principal, administrative team, faculty and staff. Each division will provide single-sex education. The girls division will effectively become the world's first all-girls Jesuit high school.
"We're pleased to report that approximately $6.5 million has been raised toward our campaign goal of $20 million," said Father Wally Sidney, S.J., Regis president. "The fact that we have been able to raise this level of support in times of great economic uncertainty and calamitous world events is a testament to the faith of the Denver Catholic community in this vision. "
The expanded Regis campus will include construction of a new building for 850 young men, a modified facility that will accommodate 750 young women, additional playing fields and parking.
The project is moving forward with the full approval and support of the Denver Catholic Archdiocese.
"Providing a Catholic secondary education to a growing population of students in the Denver area is a major priority," said Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap.
"The announcement of our expansion plans has generated considerable excitement and interest in Regis from Catholic families," said Bud Laber, chairman of the Regis board. "This is an unprecedented opportunity for Regis to help expand opportunities for young men and women to receive a Catholic and Jesuit education. To achieve our goal, though, we need the support of Denver's Catholic community now."
In order for the expanded campus to open on schedule in the fall 2003, the campaign must meet its fund raising goals of $20 million by May 2002.
"If the funds are not raised in that time frame, then construction will be delayed, " Laber said.
Regis is planning a series of timeline and project status reports at the following parishes over the next three months:
l St. Thomas More, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m.
l St. Mary's Littleton, Nov. 18 at 10 a.m.
l All Souls, Dec. 9 at 10 a.m.
l Blessed Sacrament, Dec. 9 at 11 a.m.
l Most Precious Blood, Jan. 27, 2002, at 9 a.m.
All interested community members are invited to attend. At these sessions, Regis also will solicit interest from people who want to be advocates for the campaign in the community.
