Sister Eileen Gran, 73
Retired teacher served in Denver
Sister Eileen Gran, 73, died May 29 at Good Samaritan Health Care Center in Alliance, Neb.
Mary Ellen Gran was born July 20, 1927, in Bloomfield, Neb., to Elmer W. and Eva May (Parkhurst) Gran.
She professed her religious vows on Aug. 17, 1947.
She was a retired elementary (Montessori) teacher, having taught in Indian Mission schools in South Dakota, as well as having taught in Nebraska, Colorado, and Rome, Italy.
Her survivors are her sisters and brothers, Carolyn Holsinger and Eileen Gran of Sidney, Neb.; Virginia Greenmyer of Leavenworth, Kan.; Elizabeth Gran of Denver; Jim Gran and Willis Gran of Gordon, Neb.; and Patricia Mertens of Springfield, Minn., as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held June 4 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Alliance. Father Bryan Ernest officiated. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Alliance.
Sister Corinne Ruskamp, 78
Former St. Mary Academy teacher, seamstress
School Sister of St. Francis Corinne Marie (Riga) Ruskamp, 78, died May 23 at St. Joseph Convent, Campbellsport, Wis.
The daughter of Joseph and Anna Ruskamp, she was born Aug. 9, 1922, in Dodge, Neb. She was received into the School Sisters of St. Francis community on June 13, 1939, and made profession of vows June 21, 1941.
Sister Corinne Marie was preceded in death by a sister, Sister Veronica Ann (Veronissa) Ruskamp, also a School Sister of St. Francis; and a brother, the Rev. Florian Ruskamp, O.F.M. Cap. She is survived by two sisters and a cousin who are School Sisters of St. Francis: Sister Catherine (Alvina) Ruskamp of Campbellsport, Wis.; Sister Elizabeth (Menarda) Ruskamp of Milwaukee, Wis.; and Sister Loretta (Marianus) Ruskamp (cousin) of Campbellsport, Wis.
Sister Corinne Marie lived her religious ministry in education, teaching for 50 years in Wisconsin, Nebraska and Colorado. In the Archdiocese of Denver, she taught at St. Mary Academy in Denver (1981-1992). From 1992 to 1994, she lived and worked in Denver as a substitute teacher and self-employed seamstress. Since 1994, she lived at St. Joseph Convent, Campbellsport, where she resided at the time of her death.
A wake was held May 25 at St. Joseph Convent, Campbellsport. A funeral Mass was held May 26 at St. Joseph Convent, followed by burial at Sisters' Cemetery, Campbellsport.
Sister Kathryn Tallon, 82
Teacher, case worker, served in Colorado
Sister Kathryn Tallon, a Sister of Loretto, died June 4 at the Infirmary of the Loretto Motherhouse in Nerinx, Ky. She was in the 63rd year of her religious life.
She was formerly named Sister Marie Vincent. Her life was celebrated at a Memorial Mass at the Loretto Motherhouse.
Sister Kathryn was born in Mobile, Ala., on Sept. 6, 1919.
Known as "Kit" to her friends, Sister Kathryn was a graduate of Bishop Toolen High School in Mobile having attended part of her high school years at St. John's School in Los Angeles, Calif. Sister earned bachelor's and master's degrees in home economics from Loretto Heights College and St. Louis University, respectively.
Her teaching career took her to many schools across the country. As a teacher in elementary grades, she taught at St. Rose School in St. Louis, Mo. (1941-45), Loretto School in Douglas, Ariz. (1945-47), St. Paul the Apostle School in Pine Lawn, Mo. (1948-49), and Christ the King School in Louisville, Ky. (1949-50).
Her high school teaching career took her to St. Joseph's Academy in El Paso, Texas (1950-52), Loretto High School in Louisville, Ky. (1950-55), Loretto Academy in El Paso, Texas (1955-59), St. Patrick Central High in Kankakee, Ill. (1959-64), Loretto Academy in Santa Fe, N.M. (1964-66), Newman Central High School in Sterling, Ill. (1966-68), and Bishop Toolen High School in Mobile, Ala. (1968-73).
After her long and varied teaching career, Sister became a social services case worker for the Alabama Department of Pension and Security. She moved to Colorado Springs, Colo., in 1982 where she continued as a case worker.
Sister retired in 1989 but continued various volunteer activities in Colorado Springs and later in Lakewood, Colo., when she moved to the Denver area in 1973. She moved to the Infirmary of the Loretto Motherhouse in 1998.
Sister Kathryn is survived by the members of her religious community, her sister Joann Leon, and her brother Roy V. Tallon, both of Mobile.

Funeral arrangements were made through Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto, Ky.
