Priest's golden jubilee
Denver native gives 50 years service
Father Wilbur Thomas Kissell celebrated his golden jubilee anniversary with a Mass of thanksgiving June 2 at Church of the Risen Christ. The Mass took place on his 50th ordination anniversary.
Father Kissell was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Mobile, Ala., in 1951 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Denver by Archbishop Urban J. Vehr. He celebrated his first Mass the following day at Presentation of Our Lady.
Father Kissell studied for the priesthood for the first three years at St. Thomas Seminary, Denver, and completed his studies at St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore. Father Kissell was one of the youngest seminarians ever to be ordained to the priesthood.
He has faithfully served the Diocese of Mobile his entire priesthood and is presently pastor of St. Andrew's Church in Montgomery, Ala.
Father Kissell is a native of Denver. He graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School before entering the seminary in 1942. He is the son of the late Thomas H. and Susie M. Kissell.
