Raymond A. Hutchinson Former Register editor

Raymond A. Hutchinson, associate editor for the Register System of Newspapers in the early 1950's, died Dec. 12, 2000, in California, where he had resided since 1956.

Hutchinson was born Oct. 20, 1926, in Little Rock, Ark. but spent most of his childhood and youth in Colorado, graduating from Denver's St. Catherine of Siena grade school and Regis High School. Following service in the U.S. Naval Air Corps from l944 to 1946, Hutchinson attended Rockhurst and Regis colleges, graduating from the latter in 1949.

After moving to California, he completed graduate studies at the University of San Diego. He was a writer and teacher in the San Diego area throughout his working career.

Hutchinson married Beatrice Weissberger, in La Jolla, Calif., in 1963.

Hutchinson is survived by his wife; a brother, Edwin W., Denver; and nine nieces and nephews in California and Colorado.

Memorial services were held Feb. 10 at St. Francis de Sales Church in Denver. Interment was at Fort Logan National Cemetery.

Sister Barbara Gueltzow

Grade school educator

Sister Barbara Gueltzow, 68, a Franciscan Sister of the Congregation of Our Lady of Lourdes, Rochester, Minn., who served as an educator, died in a car accident Feb. 9 in Littleton, Colo.

Born Barbara Jeanne Gueltzow on June 20, 1932, in Winona, Minn., Sister Gueltzow entered the Franciscan Congregation in 1949 from Holy Trinity Parish, Rollingstone, Minn. She made profession of vows in 1952 and began her teaching ministry at St. Augustine Parish, Austin, Minn. She also taught in Easton, Minn.; Chicago, Ill.; and Portsmouth, Ohio.

From 1978 to the present she ministered in Colorado: 1978-82 at Holy Cross Parish,Thornton; 1982-85 at St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Denver; 1988-2000 Littleton and Denver — teaching at Our Lady of Lourdes School. Sister Gueltzow celebrated her silver jubilee in 1977.

Sister Gueltzow is survived by her Franciscan Community and by one brother, Donald Gueltzow of Savage, Minn.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Feb. 16 at the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes at Assisi Heights.

Sister Francis Ritter Teacher, nurse

Sister Francis Louise Ritter died Jan. 19 at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of Loretto in Nerinx, Ky. Sister Ritter was in the 60th year of her religious life.

Sister Ritter was born and raised in Louisville, Ky., and spent 29 years of her adult life in her native state.

She was educated in Catholic school, beginning at Presentation Academy and graduating from Loretto High School in 1932. Sister Ritter earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Webster College (now University) in 1941, and a master's in chemistry from St. Louis University in 1951. She then pursued her interest in sciences by earning a license in practical nursing from St. Vincent's Hospital in Santa Fe, N.M.

Until her career in nursing began, Sister Ritter was a high school and college science teacher. She taught at Webster College in St. Louis, Mo. (1943-49); Nerinx Hall High School in St. Louis, Mo. (1949-53); St. Mary's High School in Colorado Springs, Colo. (1953-56); Loretto Junior College at Nerinx, Ky. (1956-57); Loretto Heights College in Denver, Colo. (1957-67); and St. Michael's High School in Santa Fe, N.M. (1968-71). Sister Ritter spent one year teaching at St. Joseph's Religious Education Program in Golden, Colo. (1967-68).

After Sister Ritter became a nurse, she used her skills at General Hospital in Louisville, Ky.,
