Proceeds from land sale to fund community needs
Proceeds from a land sale in Broomfield will help the Archdiocese of Denver meet construction costs at the two new archdiocesan high schools and provide funding for projects throughout northern Colorado.
The Writer Corp. bought the property Oct. 11 for a net purchase price of $15.2 million. The land, adjacent to Holy Family High School, was acquired by the archdiocese in 1977 as part of the sale of the Catholic Pastoral Center building at Ninth and Bannock streets.
"This is a tremendous blessing for the archdiocese," said Jan Zapapas, executive director of the Catholic Foundation for the Archdiocese of Denver. "Our Catholic community continues to grow, and the proceeds from this sale will help ensure that the many needs of that community are met."
Bishop Machebeuf and Holy Family high schools each opened new campuses during the 1999-2000 school year, more than doubling the enrollment potential for archdiocesan high schools. The total cost of the schools was approximately $23.5 million, with $12 million to be generated from the Hearts of Fire capital campaign.
There are approximately 373,000 registered Catholics in northern Colorado, according to Richard Sosa, director of the Office of Planning for the archdiocese.
The land was previously under contract to Richmond American Homes of Colorado, Inc., but the sale was not completed. The Writer Corp. has plans for a residential community in the area.
