Let us bring Jesus Christ to the world!
Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,
We gather in this Jubilee Year to deepen our awareness and appreciation of the awesome mystery of Jesus Christ's Real Presence with us in the Eucharist.
In his 1994 apostolic letter, "Tertio Millennio Adveniente," Pope John Paul II urged Catholics to make the Jubilee Year 2000 "intensely Eucharistic." This is why so many dioceses and archdioceses around the world are gathering their people together for celebrations like the one taking place Sunday at Magness Arena at the University of Denver. Each Eucharistic Congress seeks to deepen people's understanding of the Eucharist; to renew our devotion to the sacrament as the center of Catholic life; and finally to point us outward, confidently pursuing the mission Jesus gave us all to bring Jesus Christ to the world, and the world to Jesus Christ (see Mt 28:19).
The Eucharist is the embodiment of Christ's final words to us: "I am with you always, to the close of the age" (Mt 28:20). May the speakers, music, worship and celebrations of the Eucharistic Congress nourish our understanding of Christ's presence among us and energize us to carry His Good News to the world!
Your brother in the Lord,
Archbishop of Denver
