Churches to celebrate jubilee

In response to Pope John Paul II, declaring Year 2000 the Jubilee Year, St. Therese Catholic Church, in partnership with other area churches, will sponsor "Jubilee 2000 - A Festival in the Park," on Saturday, Aug. 19, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., at Spencer Garrett Park, located at 17th Ave. and Joliet St., in Aurora.

People in need will be the honored guests at this event, which offers them a picnic lunch, nonperishable food items, clothing and back-to-school supplies. It will also be an opportunity for the people of North Aurora to experience community and get to know their neighbors, as well as receive only what God can give - Hope, Peace and Joy.

This is an event for people of all ages to enjoy activities such as puppet shows, face painting, music and dance, arts and crafts, and demonstrations by the Aurora Fire Department and a local martial arts group. There will be exhibits from community groups, including SHARE Colorado, as a way to inform participants of the good work being done to build genuine community, that leaves no one behind in getting the help needed to become whole.

The festival will conclude with singing and giving thanks to God for making this possible - a day in which we can experience the Lord's Jubilee.

Volunteers are needed on the day of the event to help distribute the food, clothing and back-to-school supplies. To volunteer or for more information, call St. Therese Church, 303-344-0132.
