All invited to Walk for Vocations at Cabrini Shrine
`Walk for Vocations'
at Cabrini Shrine, Aug. 12
Everyone is invited
to join in the annual "Walk for Vocations" beginning at 10 a.m.
on Aug. 12 at Mother Cabrini Shrine in Golden. Last year, more than 175
people took part.
"This walk
is a way for people to take a very public and very active role in praying
for vocations," said Sister of Mercy Sharon Ford, secretary for religious.
Pilgrims will pray
a "vocation version" of the Stations of the Cross as they travel
up 373 steps to the statue of the Sacred Heart.
A Mass will follow
at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel celebrated by Msgr. Walker Nickless, vicar
general and secretary for priests and seminarians. The Knights of Columbus
will provide lunch for all present.
Archbishop Charles
Chaput, O.F.M. Cap., constantly encourages young men to consider the priesthood
or religious life. He also encourages young women to consider the religious
life as a dynamic way to proclaim Christ in the midst of modern culture.
"During his
1993 visit to Denver, the Pope challenged young people of the world by
saying: `This is no time to be ashamed of the Gospel. It is the time to
preach it from the rooftops. Do not be afraid to break out of comfortable
and routine modes of living, in order to take up the challenge of making
Christ known,'" Archbishop Chaput wrote in a recent letter encouraging
vocations.

life, contact Sister Ford at 303-715-3239. For information on the priesthood
