FAMILY SUPPORT AND EDUCATION SERVICES

EDUCATION, ADULT LITERACY AND COMPUTER TRAINING

GED - Over 125 students have graduated and received GED certificates from the Colorado Department of Education. Classes De Ingles - English As A Second Language (ESL) - Over 120 adult students registered and completed ESL classes through a collaborative partnership with two community-based organizations that also serve the Latino community through their “Open Book” Program.

"Alphabetizacion" - Adult Literacy Training - 30 adult students are currently enrolled in the “Alphabetizacion” course, which a partnership with the Mexican Consulate of Colorado. Instruction is provided in basic reading, writing, and math. The class meets twice a week for two hours. At the end of each 4 month-course, students are able to read aloud and comprehend complete stories. They are also able to write paragraphs of at least 10 sentences and be able to express themselves clearly, add, subtract, multiply, and divide.

Computer Literacy Training - A total of 210 hours, divided into 60 sessions of training is offered in Operating Systems, Windows 2000 XP, as well as Office 2000 XP, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel was offered. This year over 175 adult students have attended the Computer Literacy Training.

Entrelazo Cultural - This program provides assistance for newly arrived immigrant families who are experiencing isolation, anxiety, and cultural challenges. Its objective is to help with individuals adjust to their new life in the U.S. The curriculum that is utilized for the program is titled, Entérese and is offered during the computer literacy training class and in conjunction with the Latina Leadership Program.
