About the Library

On October 30, 2007, the Archbishop Vehr Library was rededicated under the name Cardinal Stafford Library. This honors Cardinal Stafford, on his fiftieth anniversary as a priest, for his support of the library, seminary, and Catholic education in Northern Colorado. For more information on the dedication, see the article in the Denver Catholic Register.  The Archbishop Vehr title continues as the name of the library’s spacious reading room. 

The Vehr Theological Library is open to the public, with more than 150,000 books and 1,400 videotapes available. From its founding in 1907, the library has compiled one of the finest collections of theology, church history, patristics, biblical studies, liturgy, canon law, religious education, pastoral care, youth ministry, religious art, philosophy and literature. It features a wide range of books on lives of the saints as well as official Church documents. Children are welcome to explore the books and videos in our new children's area. Special collections include a compilation of rare books from the 16th century and over 300 periodicals, several with full runs dating back to the 1800s.

Patrons have access to the library copy machine as well as a microfilm reader/printer. They may also use the library computers to access the Internet and electronic resources, including BibleWorks, Vetus Latina, Library of Latin Texts, and Thesaurus Linguae Graecae. A reference librarian is available to assist visitors. Enjoy the quiet, reflective atmosphere fostered by the Lombardian architecture.
