Statement by Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap.
December 29, 2004
"At noon Rome time today, the Holy Father appointed Bishop Jose H. Gomez,
S.T.D., as
Archbishop-elect of San Antonio. This is a great joy and honor for the Archdiocese of Denver, and also a source of sadness in the departure of a good friend. Archbishop-elect Gomez has had a deep impact on the Church in northern Colorado. He is well loved and will be greatly missed. We will always regard him as a brother in our family of faith.
But we know that he goes to a wonderful Catholic community where he will serve Christ and His Church in important new ways. I know Catholics across the Archdiocese will join me in wishing him God's grace in his new ministry and in supporting him with their daily prayers."
