Christ reveals the meaning of life

Archbishop Charles Chaput sends Christmas blessings

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Time passes so quickly, and the pace of daily life today is so hectic, that we often forget to tell our friends and loved ones just how much they mean to us. Christmas is an invitation to focus on the things which really matter — God, faith, family and gratitude for the gift of life.

Truly, the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem changed, and changes, everything about our world. The Son of God brings us light and renewal and joy. In fact, the reason we celebrate the "holiday season" has nothing to do with the frenzy of buying gifts. It has everything to do with the Christ Child. There is no Christmas without Him. He reveals the meaning of life.

"The Word became flesh and dwelt among us" (Jn 1:14), and all things are made new because of that miracle of love. May God fill you with His peace and bless each of you and your families this Christmas season. You will be in my Christmas Mass intentions, and please remember me in your prayers as well!

Your brother in the Lord,
Most Rev. Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap. Cap.
Archbishop of Denver
