About Lent

The Archdiocese of Denver invites the faith community to pray, fast, and give alms as we embark together upon the Lenten journey towards the Cross and, ultimately, the Resurrection.

Pope Benedict's Lenten Message (back to top)

Pope Benedict XVI's Lenten message considers the following excerpt from Scripture: "Christ made Himself poor for you” (2 Cor 8:9). The Holy Father asks us to prayerfully reflect on the practice of almsgiving. He invites us to discover Christ in those to whom we give. In so doing, we also become one with Christ ourselves. Our hands become His hands when we serve. Our heart becomes His heart when we love those who need it most.
